0S501 Summit Drive - Winfield Illinois 60190
Christ Our Savior’s present site was built in 1970. Roots are in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. If you would like to know more about LCMS teachings either follow that link from our site or e-mail Pastor Aubey your question. The LCMS is divided into districts. Our district is the Northern Illinois District and you can link to that site to see ministries that go beyond the community of Winfield. If you are open to using a search engine we recommend Goodsearch – for every ‘hit’ we receive a penny if you click in the beginning that you would like the search to include our congregation.
Besides worship on Sunday mornings we have Bible classes, small groups, children’s ministries and women’s ministries – see other site locations for info. If you have an interest that is important let us know how we might include that for you.
Founder "Martin Luther" to speak in Winfield on 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation.
Winfield, IL – Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church, 0S501 Summit Dr. in Winfield, will host a special guest appearance of "Martin Luther" during the 9:00 a.m. worship service on Sunday, October 29. The public is invited to attend.
It was exactly 500 years ago, on October 30, 1517, when theology professor Martin Luther approached his university's bulletin board -- the door of the castle's church in Wittenberg, Germany, that served as the university's major assembly hall -- and posted an invitation to debate 95 theological points he listed. The religious questions he raised resulted in the Protestant branch of Christianity.
Dr. Luther will be reincarnated in the costumed form of Stan Zegel, a Winfield resident and Martin Luther historian, who will provide a dramatic interpretation of the reformer. In his scholarly pursuits, Zegel has shown a life-long interest in the life of Dr. Luther, traveling multiple times to historic Luther sites in Germany and collecting one-of-a-kind books and posters.
Starting a week earlier, on Sunday Oct. 22, Zegel's prized 1428-page Luther book printed in 1662 in Germany on handmade paper and bound in parchment will be on display at the church. It is the sixth volume of what translates as “All the German Books and Writings of that Truly Holy Man of God, Dr. Martin Luther.” The sanctuary will be decorated with several posters created in Communist East Germany in 1983 for the celebration of the 500th anniversary of Luther’s birth there. They will remain until after the festival service on Oct. 29.
A special preview of the collection, primarily for members of Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church and Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church (West Chicago), is on Saturday morning at 8:15 a.m., Saturday, October 28.
